Virtual Communities are NOT Real Communities
4 people like virtual communities are NOT real communities
Charlotte, Chris, Melanie and Will feel that communities like Pillow Fight and Zombie Shuffle should not be considered a "real community". Events are held sporadically (annually, in this case), and active interaction and connectiveness between members of these communities only occur around the date of the events. They feel that this is not enough to draw a parallel with "real communities" in the traditional sense.
Charlotte says:
"I think the pillow fight community doesn't count as a 'real' community, unless it involved more than just the occasional pillow fight per year."
Will says:
"It's a great way to meet people, but as there isn't a lot of regular discussions or interation apart from the week either side of the event"
Melanie says:
"No, I don't think so. Let's face it, people do it just for the fun. There's nothing intrinsically life-changing about liking zombies."
