Virtual Communities are Real Communities

7 people like virtual communities are real communities

Emily, Indra, Jakob, Kane, Laura, Shane and Heather feel that virtual communities like Pillow Fight and Zombie Shuffle should be considered "real communities". They have all made friends through these communities and continue to actively interact with each other aside from the short period that these events are held.

Emily says:

"I would call it a community, although my own participation in the life of this "community" was more as an observer."

Laura says:

"We're all there with a common interest and goal."

Shane says:

"Online communities are still communities, albeit formed in a different, more efficient manner. They are "mental" communities connected through electronic means, which grow and die at an accellerated rate compared with real communities."
